Kentucky Fruitcake

5 cups sifted flour
1 cup brown sugar
2 cups granulated sugar
6 eggs beaten separately
¾ pound butter
1 pint Bourbon
1 pound pecans
½ pound white raisins cut up
2 tsps nutmeg
1 tsp baking powder
1 pound candied red cherries cut up

Soak cherries and raisins in Bourbon overnight. Cream sugar and butter. Add yokes and beat well. Add soaked fruit and remaining liquid. Add floured nuts to the mixture with nutmeg and baking powder. Fold in the egg whites. Dust 5 small loaf pans or fruit cans with flour and fill ¾ full. Put in roasting pan containing a few inches of water and steam covered for 2 ½ hours at 300 degrees.
